The first time we became familiar with DJ Tisto's mastery of the turntables was when we were fortunate enough to hear his live set at Energy 2000. This curiosity led us to find out more about some of his official releases: theSearch for Sunrise series and the Magiksessions.

A deejay at a young age, Tijs Verwestadopted the name DJ Tisto and has ever since captivated worldwide audiences with his track selection that range from trance to progressive. His technical skills are also rather unique; he can destroy the decks like few can and raise the crowds' energy like this was his calling. And his calling it is.

While Tisto has some very impressive studio releases, it is, like most deejays, his live sets that let you in on his prowess. We recently caught one of his sets, and before getting blown away by the force, power and melody that he demonstrated, we shared a few drinks with the tall, smiling Dutchman and asked him some questions.

Q: Hello Tisto, thank you very much for granting us this interview. I know you are eager to get on stage. How did you get into DJing?

Since I was a kid, I always felt the need to share the music I love with as many people as possible, and DJing seemed like the perfect outlet.

Q: Why did you choose the name "Tisto"?

It's a nickname of my real name "Tijs" and I love the name so much because it sounds happy and magical...

Q: Who were some of your influences when you started DJing? Today?

I was influenced by all sorts of music and I still am today. Record labels like Eye-Q-records from Germany and Belgium, labels like Bonzai and Music Man have always been my favorites.

Q: Do you prefer DJing or producing songs?

I love to produce a track and then play it for the crowd, that's the biggest kick for me!

Q: I can understand, the best of both worlds... What advice or tips would you give a young deejay?

Play only what you really like yourself, but always try to please the crowd within your personal taste.

Q: What is the best part of life as a deejay?

Traveling all over the world, fantastic parties and meeting so many different people.

    ¿ Quick fact ?
DJ Tisto loves the traveling and great partying aspects of life as a deejay.

Q: What is the worst part about DJing?

You don't get much sleep so you feel exhausted sometimes.

Q: Who would you love to DJ with?

Any deejay that makes the crowd happy.

Q: What is the best song, or your favorite song that you have produced?

My biggest success is "Delerium-Silence", but it's a remix. I am working on my album at the moment so I can tell you in a few months from now which track will be my favorite. I did a song with Junkie XL, which is my favorite at this moment.

Q: What has been your best show?

It was this year, the 7th of January in Eilat, Israel; 6,000 people in the desert going absolutely mad!!!

Q: What has been your worst show?

Innercity, on the 30th of December 2000. I was just in the middle of building up my set when somebody was stabbed in the audience, so I had to stop my show immediately.

Q: That can't be a good thing for the mood. What would be your favorite live set?

Playing a 6-hour solo set in a big stadium, for 50,000 people.

Q: Please explain to our readers how the Magik sets came about and how they differ from your In Search for Sunrisealbums.

A Magik session is a journey through different stages of emotions and the Search for Sunrise is more chilling music for when you come home after a party or when you are just about to go to one...

Q: Where do you find the best audiences?

All over the world, every country has its own special crowd.

Q: What is the best city that you have traveled to as a tourist?

I haven't been traveling much as a tourist, but I think Sydney.

Q: I understand, it made it onto the And what is the worst city?

I have not found one yet...

Q:You are so diplomatic, are you sure you are not Swiss (laughs)? Let's see how you answer this one: how do you feel about Napster?

Napster is great so long as they put out tracks on there that have been officially released. I don't really mind people downloading my music; I also see it as a compliment. And if you are a real music lover, you want to have the original CD anyway 'cause then you feel more connected to the artist.

Q: What do you think is going to happen to it and file-sharing in general?

I think it's here to stay.

    ¿ Quick fact ?
DJ Tisto doesn't plan on doing a Global Underground album in the future because he feels that it goes against what he stands for.

Q: How did you get involved with 's Nettwerk Productions?

I did a remix for BT called "Dreaming". BT and Nettwerk loved it so much that they approached me to do more stuff for them.

Q: Has she heard your remixes of Silence, if so, what does she think?

She heard it and she didn't like it in the beginning. Now, seeing the result, I think she loves it (laughs). It has been good for her as well, 'cause now everybody in Europe knows her.

Q: Are you planning to do a Global Underground in the future? You had once mentioned that it was too technical and missed the live feel?

No, it's not my thing. It's a different sound than what I stand for.

Q: Who is the best ambassador for the genre?

There is not just one ambassador, I think. Of course تنها كاربران عضو مي توانند لينك ها را مشاهده كنند. did a lot for the genre, but don't forget all those producers who made those brilliant tracks that made deejays able to let the crowd go wild.

Q: Great point on mixing versus track selection... What is the longest set that you have ever played, and where was it?

2 years ago -- a 12-hour set.

Q: Is there a perfect set length, and if yes, how long would it be?

I think it depends what night it is. It's like ***: sometimes a quickie, sometimes a long to a very long session...

Q: Great analogy, speaking of women, how is it on tour with women, groupies and you know, the other temptations that you face on the road?

I don't have much time for that because I am too busy with touring, producing, remixing, running my record company, or shopping in a record store.

Q: So, how is the love life?

My love life is great, I am very happy.

Q: What are your goals for 2001?

Finishing my artist album and growing further as a deejay.

Q: Thank you very much Tisto, now go on stage and keep destroying the decks like only you can.

Oh, I will. And thank you.

The Tiësto interview - we chat death, drugs and football
Dutch superstar DJ, Tiësto, on rumours of his death, life on the road and playing to a Spanish crowd straight after Holland’s World Cup defeat
    So, apparently you’re dead.
You called me in heaven, right?

    What’s it like up there?
It’s pretty amazing. I’m not going to lie [laughs]. Yeah, the death rumours come back every two years [reports earlier this month claimed Tiësto died in a car crash].

How did you find out about it?
Through Twitter. Everyone was sending messages like ‘Dude, you’re dead. What happened?’. It was something negative but it gave me something positive because so many people sent me love messages.

You live something of a vampire existence, awake in clubs all night. Do you ever get sick of it?
No, actually I don’t get sick of it at all. It’s a very glamorous life, you meet amazing people, you get to play music and every night is always different.

Do you ever forget which city you’re in?

I always know which city I’m in but sometimes I forget what time it is. I’ll go to bed at six in the evening for a power nap and when I wake up I often think it’s the morning and I’m like ‘Oh shit, I missed my gig’.

You’ve got Pendulum playing at your upcoming show in Victoria Park. Why did you choose them?
I wanted to do something different in the line-up and I love Pendulum – their sound is very fresh. They’re already huge but I think they’ll be even bigger next year.

If you weren’t a superstar DJ, what would you be doing?
Either working in the music business, maybe a road manager or tour manager, or I would work in a restaurant. I like to cook, so hopefully I could be a chef.

Clubbing is known for its drug scene. Have you seen much in terms of excess?

I think if you were to say ‘Clubbing is drug related’ five years ago, then yes. Nowadays, I barely see anybody off their head; people get wasted on alcohol, which is maybe the same thing, but I don’t see that many drugs anymore. It’s getting played out and the new generation doesn’t really care about it.

What’s the biggest diva moment you’ve seen from another DJ?

I hear stories from other promoters. One promoter got a really nice hotel suite but the DJ didn’t like the furniture and wanted to change hotels. [The promoter] had to spend half a day finding a different hotel. I’ve stayed in that room, it was pretty nice.

Who’s the nicest name in dance music?
I really like the boys from the Swedish House Mafia. They are very nice guys – very humble and all very talented.

Commiserations on Holland’s defeat in the World Cup final. What were your thoughts?
I think Holland played really bad and Spain played really bad too. But I’m so bummed. I really thought this was going to be the year of Holland. Then I had to play in Marbella after we lost, to a Spanish crowd with flags everywhere and they’re all partying to my music. It was pure torture [laughs].

This is the interview with Tiesto from Nu.nl where Tiesto states that Jay-Z didn’t want to produce a track together because Jay-Z wants to stick to hip-hop productions.
Tiesto also has a spare track left he produced with Britney Spears. They didn’t finish it together so maybe it returns as an instrumental track, says Tiesto.
    The interview:
    Laaiend
“Hij zei; ‘I stick to my roots.

Google Translate

Tiësto recently scored a big hit with Diplo and Busta Rhymes. It was a collaboration that came about by chance and was a great success. But that is not always the case. "It did not click," he says of his collaboration with Britney Spears.
The Breda Tijs gets over ten years has been successful worldwide, initially as a trance DJ. This style has outgrown it, finds himself. "It was me from standing in the end. Always the same tunes. I felt that I no longer jump above it. "
Tiësto saw no adventure more trance music. "At one point adds nothing to it," he argues. "I noticed especially in recent years. I felt nothing more and I became increasingly attracted to house-like music. "
The album Kaleidoscope Tiësto had a totally different direction than we had previously heard of him were used. "For many people took some getting used to," he realizes. "I gained new fans. Many old fans dropped off, but came back after she saw the show live. "
    Transition
This change in style has reflected on the radio career of Verwest. Earlier this year he announced his move to Radio 538 on 3FM. "I felt I made the music and the music that I ran more than 538 matches 3FM."
"With Kaleidoscope I fell somewhere between the stools. Sat 3FM it in his stomach, because I was a 538-dj. So they could not give the support they wanted. It works a bit. The only 3FM DJ who always supported me was Giel Beelen. "
    Blazing
Westernize went on spec to the station master of 3FM. "I'm going there wrists or interest, because the music I make now and what I want to make it fit. Wilbert Mutsaers (coordinator station 3FM, red) and Marc Adriani (Deputy Director BNN, red) were very enthusiastic. "
The new home base 3FM Tiësto also hopes to tap a target for his next album, which appears only in 2012. "I want to develop the style of Kaleidoscope," says Verwest. "Maybe with a solid singer. But usually I find that a bit boring. "
    Instrument Aaltje
C'mon hit (Catch 'Em By Surprise) by Diplo and Busta Rhymes came spontaneously. "With User I work for a long time and we had this track as a tool nematode released. Until a few months ago, we thought, 'Nice hit, nothing more. "
"Busta heard it by chance and wanted to do something with it", through his management Verwest got to hear. "I heard the result and I found it very fat. It is separate from whatever else I do, but it's become very cool. "
    Rating
Today, many major artists Tiësto called to work together. "You get used to never," said the Dutchman. "It is never just. But it is very nice, because it is a token of appreciation. "
Tiësto remains very down to earth below. "Sometimes I come at Jay-Z and he is exactly the same as me. A very shy, normal boy. Totally different than the way you always see him. But it is always about work. What else can you ask? "How's your wife?"
    Hiphopman
Until one gets into the rap collaboration was not persuaded. "He said," I stick to my roots. I am a hiphopman. Everyone is now on the dance tour, so I stick to hip-hop. "But he thinks it is like what I do."
The music of fellow David Guetta Tiesto is also more like R & B than a dance considered. "**** ***** When I first heard, I did not even know it was his. I thought, 'Oh, that's the new from Akon. "
    Name
Not all the collaborations between hip-hoppers and dance producers Tiësto is speaking. A collaboration with Black Eyed Peas hit it off. However, Tiesto mentioned by name at number XOXO. "I was like, 'Dude, if you use my name, or do it on a good track."
Britney Spears asked Tiësto to submit a song for her to produce. This cooperation was marred. "I'm willing to make tracks, but I do not compromise," says Verwest. "I have lying around that track. There will be something happening.Maybe I like him instrumental. "

    [COLOR=#2B2B2B !important]Exclusive Tiësto interview![/COLOR]
    Updated: Thursday 28th, May 2009

: Somebody who doesn't need an introduction is Tijs Verwest a.k.a. Tiësto. Trance.nu spoke to him while he was in the US to promote his brand new mix compilation In Search Of Sunrise 7

Trance.nu: Your brand new mix compilation In Search Of Sunrise part 7 was just released. Previous parts of In Search Of Sunrise were dedicated to Panama, Los Angeles, Latin America, Ibiza etc. This time you recorded the CD in Thailand. Why did you choose Asia for this In Search Of Sunrise?
Tiësto: Well, in April of this year, I had a 6 week tour in Asia and during that time I was already thinking of a new In Search Of Sunrise compilation to release before the summer. While I was touring there, I had so many cool, new tracks I played out. I managed to gather quite a nice collection and when I decided to make a new In Search Of Sunrise compilation, it felt ‘right’ to dedicate it to Asia.

Trance.nu: In comparison to previous releases of In Search Of Sunrise where your track selection included a considerable amount of unknown and newer songs, this edition contains more recognisable tracks already known to a wider audience. Was this a conscious decision made particularly for this CD?
Tiësto: Nowadays everything goes so fast, especially with the internet. It’s almost impossible to keep something for yourself. Even if I have one of my own tracks and I start to play it out, it doesn’t take too long before people find out what it is.

So it’s impossible to keep things exclusive, people record movies during shows and put them on Youtube. The internet plays a big role in spreading new music worldwide, it is almost unheard of that people will find something brand new on a CD by the time it is released.

Trance.nu: Do you think that it’s hard to keep the In Search Of Sunrise series at a high level?
Tiësto: No, not really to be honest. In Search Of Sunrise 6 was a real highlight for me, and the same goes for this edition too. Personally I feel that both CDs flow really well. The first CD is probably something more people expect me to do, but the second disc has more of an older school trance feeling on it, with a fresher and newer sound. Every new In Search Of Sunrise CD is from a new time you know?

Lots of people are always talking about the first and the third In Search Of Sunrise edition, but yeah, that was a whole different time with different tracks as well, I even played with vinyl in that period. In that time there was already internet, but it wasn’t as big as it is now, so lots of things have changed since then. But I still think In Search Of Sunrise is a high quality compilation.

Trance.nu: Do you think that it’s possible to take the In Search Of Sunrise compilations a step further every time?
Tiësto: Well, I think it’s going to be even more difficult in the future for sure. Especially since so many things have been done already. I do experience this as well in the music scene. There are many tracks being released nowadays, which also sound like tracks that were released 10 years ago. They do sound like the tracks from back then, but of course the quality is better, but the feeling and the melody is almost the same nowadays.

So I think in the future it will be harder to take the In Search Of Sunrise compilations a step further, but I still think they are really good now. Every time just before we start with a new In Search Of Sunrise it is very stressful to get all tracks for the compilation. Like this one we want to use, this one we don’t want to use.

Sometimes you are searching for 1 final track to put on a CD or you have 1 track that doesn’t really fit in the mix etc. You can’t compare a mix album with a normal live set, since you are limited when you have made your track selection for the CD of course.

Trance.nu: One of the tracks on this In Search Of Sunrise, is the track ‘Blossom’ by ‘Steve Forte Rio’. According to some rumours on the internet, ‘Steve Forte Rio’ is an anagram for ‘Tiësto Forever’. Can you tell us something more about this?
Tiësto: Hahaha! Well…. That’s a rumour indeed, haha! It might be possible… I like to keep some things a bit mysterious….

Trance.nu: At the moment you are touring the US to promote the In Search Of Sunrise compilation. Many Dutch fans would like to know if there will be a release party in The Netherlands as well?
Tiësto: Normally we always do one, but my schedule for the next couple of months is really full already. So I think a Dutch release party might be done around the end of the year. I don’t have a date for it right now, but there will be a date later for sure!

Trance.nu: You have already hosted many In Search Of Sunrise events in the past, what are some of your favorite memories from these parties?
Tiësto: A few of the release parties which I did for the In Search Of Sunrise CD’s. When I released the first edition in Norway, the release party was in a very small club. That was very special, since it was really cool to see how the audience were reacting to the CD.

That was awesome! Another thing that I will never forget was the release party in the Heineken Music Hall (Amsterdam, The Netherlands). I did a few really cool release parties over there as well.

Trance.nu: Are there, besides the In Search Of Sunrise CD’s, any other compilations that you would like to mix? For example, an edition of Global Underground, or maybe something else, such as an electro house compilation?
Tiësto: Well, I have to say that in the past one of my dreams was to mix one of the Global Underground CD’s. That was in the time that they just started to release them, back in 1996. I was like “Wow, it would be awesome to remix one of those!”, but right now I think it has lost its charm a bit.

It’s not what it used to be anymore, so right now when it comes to mix compilations, I’m happy with what I’m doing at the moment.

Trance.nu: You are regarded as one of the world’s best and most popular DJ’s ever. So far you have reached many highlights in your career, that most people only can dream about. You’re travelling all around the globe, for three years in a row you were #1 in the DJ Mag Top 100, your music has been used in movies, you DJ-ed at the opening for the Olympic Games, you have had collaborations with other famous names and you remixed world famous stars. What is the absolute highlight in your career so far?
Tiësto: Hmmm, that is hard to say… But when I have to name just 1 thing, it would be my breakthrough. That is something that I will never forget. The first time you play at a big event, Innercity, and perform for 30.000 crazy people! That was a highlight for sure! I think it’s not just a highlight when you can DJ at the Olympic Games, but it’s also a highlight when you have to perform in the middle of nowhere and when you play for a few thousand people in a sold out club. My whole lifestyle changed in the last couple of years, so I can really say that my whole life is 1 big highlight!

The things you mentioned are all highlights for sure, but in between there were a lot of highlights as well, that many people don’t even realise. I mean, I travel a lot, the fact that I recorded the In Search Of Sunrise compilation in a hotel room in Thailand, with 2 little speakers on top of some chairs! Also little things like this are highlights for me. I have so many great memories, it’s insane! Maybe I should write a book about that, hahaha!

Trance.nu: Haha, yeah, that might be a good idea indeed! I also saw the movie on your website, where you show the people how you record the CD.
Tiësto: True! So people can see that it’s not fake. I’m really mixing the CD live, so it’s not manipulated with computers and mixed with Ableton.

Trance.nu: Do you ever consider when you will stop with your career or is this something that has not crossed your mind at this point yet?
Tiësto: No, not at all. Of course I’m a bit older now, so I can imagine that people are speculating when I’m going to stop, but I really love what I’m doing, so I don’t want to stop something that I love doing. I mean, it will always be a challenge for me. Every year is different and I’m looking for more immersion in my career.

I’m doing other things, I make different types of music right now, I work with other artists, my sets are different and I have the feeling that I’m going back to my trance roots, when I compare it with 2 - 3 years ago. So it is still fun for me and a challenge, so as long as it is like that, I will keep doing this! The main motivator that drives me to keep doing what I do is my love and passion for the music. I also think that it will be very hard for me to stop, because I just love DJ-ing.

The adrenaline you get when you are on stage is so addictive, once you have experienced it, who knows if it is even possible to live without it!

Trance.nu: You achieved so many things in your career already, but are there still things that you really would like to do?
Tiësto: Hmmm… I think I just want to enjoy as long as possible what I’m doing right now. They always say “I’m living the dream” and that is really what I’m doing! I think I’m doing a lot of cool things that many people might be jealous of.

Trance.nu: Do you read internet forums, to see what people say about your music and your DJ sets?
Tiësto: In the past I did check out the forums to read reactions etc. but recently I just don’t have time to do it anymore. Plus there are so many things that are being written about me, that it’s almost impossible to read everything. I always enjoyed reading reactions from people! There is also a lot of criticism on the forums, but during the years I learned how to read it and when they have some criticism, which is correct, I know that it’s like that.

But also when they write something like “Tiësto sucks, bla bla bla”, I’m just laughing about it! One thing that I find a bit dangerous from those forums is, that there are people who say they know something, which is just not true. Like for example, when somebody is saying “one of my friends had to perform with Tiësto and Tiësto said that he could not play this certain record”. And somebody is putting that on a forum and people just believe it straight away, that something like that is true, while there are so many things being said, that are just not true! So I think it’s pretty sad that people make up things about me, to make me look bad. I think that’s a big disadvantage of forums.

Another one is that, for example, you play at a party for 1.000 people. And there are 2 people at that party, who are members of a trance forum. If they, for whatever kind of reason, don’t like the party, they write something really bad about the night on a forum, while the other 998 people had an awesome time! So that is also something that I don’t really like. So in the past I checked forums a lot more often than I do nowadays.

Trance.nu: I think for you the feedback that you get at the party itself, says more than the negative replies on forums right?
Tiësto: Yes, true! The forums don’t always give a true reflection of what I see in the clubs or parties. When I see what happens in reality, people still have an awesome time at my gigs. Right now I’m doing my 5th or 6th tour in the US already and every night is sold out and the venues are packed, the audience is great and they are all having a good time, so I’m not going to worry too much about what people write on the forums.

Plus you never know who writes stuff like that. In the past I noticed comments from people who were also in the music scene, like other DJ’s or producers. And when you make 1 or 2 small mixing mistakes a night, they write on the forums “my whole night was ruined because of that!”, Come on, 1 or 2 little mistakes during the whole night, big deal! Stuff like that can happen!

Well, that is how I personally think about it, we’re all human and we all mistakes. I see everybody going nuts and that’s the most important thing for me!

Trance.nu: During the summer you are at almost all the big festivals and in October you are getting married. What are your plans after this? Is it time to start to work on a new artist album already?
Tiësto: Yes, I think I am going to work on a new album for sure! I’m really looking forward to that! So hopefully in the beginning of 2009, let’s say February or March, I’m gonna relax a bit and work on new stuff for a new album.

Trance.nu: What can we expect from you in the next couple of months?
Tiësto: Since most things have already been done, I will be concentrating mainly on my DJ gigs. The new In Search Of Sunrise is out and I believe the remix I did for the Cary Brothers, “Ride” is doing really well, so that might possibly become a hit!

Trance.nu: I want to thank you very much for your time and good luck for the future!
Tiësto: You’re welcome and thank you too!

In Search Of Sunrise 5 Los Angles هست

Tiesto - one name means so much. A unique vision of trance music that has conquered the world. Topping the DJ list for three years, playing the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games, and selling out stadiums; Tiesto live is an amazing experience. At the Mansion in Miami, Tiësto rocked the crowd for a non-stop set that has already become the stuff of legend. Magnetic visuals, creative performance artists and a stunning vocal performance by Jes completed the scene for a magical evening. Trust me, I am not a trancehead by any stretch of the imagination, but the full experience has opened my eyes to why Tiësto has a loyal international following. Tiesto's new CD In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles is a taste of the latest journey.DJ Ron Slomowicz: I just finished talking to Junkie XL, so it seems like the Dutch producers and DJs are doing very well. Why do you think all you great Amsterdam producers and DJs are doing so well right now?
Tiesto: Well it's a good question. I think its because the Dutch people are very stiff in general when they go out, they're not like Latin Americans or Eastern Europe, so we need to put extra energy in the music to make them loosen up. That's the main reason why our music is so successful.

RS: In Search of Sunrise 5 is coming out and the first thing I noticed looking at the lineup is that there isn't a Tiesto track on it.
Tiesto: There is no Tiesto track on it because I haven't had time to produce any new tracks. I've been on the road for the last year and a half, so I haven't made any new music. I've finished a couple of tracks with BT but I thought it was too soon to put them on the album so I wanted to save them for the artist album.

RS: What was it like working with BT?
Tiesto: Working with BT is amazing. He's full of energy and the whole day he's running around. We produce music together and then he goes away to do a movie and an interview and he's just all over the place. It's great to work with a guy like that, very inspirational.

RS: Talking about touring, I hear you've got a big Asia tour coming up?
Tiesto: Yes. The kick-off was actually last week in Malaysia and I played in the Grand Prix party. It was amazing - twenty thousand Malaysians going crazy. After the Winter Music Conference I go back to Manila and then do the rest of Asia.

RS: Very cool. I also heard that you're going to be doing a US tour of smaller cities. Is that in the works?
Tiesto: Well, I wouldn't say smaller cities but I'm going to do a full US tour in the month of May. So from the 2nd to the 29th May I will be playing almost every night and I do a lot of big and small cities.

RS: So in thirty days you're doing thirty gigs. How do you keep yourself up for that, night after night?
Tiesto: It's a different state of mind and I love to do it, especially in the US because it's so nice to travel here. It's so convenient and to play every night it gets me in a different state of mind, I love it.

RS: Do you fly around or take a bus?
Tiesto: I fly around because it's easier. I like the bus idea, but most of the time you're on the highway so I prefer to fly to get there quicker.

RS: I heard you're living in LA now?
Tiesto: Yes, partly. I really live all over the world.

RS: So what inspired the partial move to Los Angeles?
Tiesto: Well I'd been there a couple of months and there's just amazing musicians over there, not only the famous ones but there's a lot of talent bubbling under. I met so many great vocalists and people to work with and inspiring people, LA is full of that. LA has a dark side too, everybody talks about the Hollywood scene but there's also a really creative scene of beautiful people. In LA, you can find whatever you want. It depends on your own personality, what you get out of LA, and that's why I love LA.

RS: Speaking about great vocalists, I heard you worked with Jes on a track and she's performing with you down here. How do you two work together?
Tiesto: I'm a big fan of Jes, her voice is of the greatest voices of all time. Whatever she sings, I love, so to work with her was a big honor. We worked the lyrics together and she's so full of energy. She was with me in Malaysia as well on tour and the crowd loves her because she gives the energy to the people and it's great.

RS: I haven't listened to the new CD yet, but the last four ones start and they really grab you and mix trance and classical. Is the new CD that same kind of journey?
Tiesto: It's definitely a journey, because after I finished it I listened to it a couple of more times. It's a journey of Tiesto 2006. You can't compare it to the first one or the second one, because those are different times, different trance, and difference music. So I think I moved on and I developed my own sound. I'm really proud of this CD, because it's a double CD but it's one journey. It starts off with a really slow housey beat, like you're lying on the beach and it's like being in a club. Yes, it's a whole journey and I'm really proud of it.

RS: Did you record it live or was it in a club or did you record it in a studio?
Tiesto: I recorded it in a studio in LA - in my apartment over there.

RS: Hence the subtitle Los Angeles.
Tiesto: Yes, definitely. The last one I recorded in Latin America and the third one in Panama, etc.

RS: How do you choose songs for a CD like that?
Tiesto: That goes pretty natural, because when I choose songs I just choose songs I like. I don't even have the boundaries that it has to be trance or it has to be like this. There are a couple of house tracks on there, so people are going to be surprised. I choose songs if I like them and they do something to me, and then I play them out for the crowd to see how they react.

RS: The crowds love you and you were number one in the DJ pool for many years. Why do you think trance DJs do so well in the DJ pools and why do you think there's such an affinity for them?
Tiesto: We used to be called trance DJs and I am still a trance DJ but in a different way. I have my own sound - Tiesto trance. Trance lovers are so dedicated and they are really interested in it. They want to know everything about it - the words and the melodies. Part of the dedication is their voting. People who like house music, the ones who go to the VIP parties, they love the music but they're not going to vote. So I think that's why the trance DJs always ends up in the top five because of the passion - the trance people vote because they care.

RS: What kind of advice would you give an upcoming producer/DJ who wants to start touring and get out there?
Tiesto: I don't know, it's hard to give advice. I mean there's so much you have to do before you become big. You have to be willing to sacrifice your life for at least ten years and be dedicated to the music. It's twenty-four hours - you need to breathe music, think about music, play music, produce music, and listen to music. It's everything - that's the only way you can make it, one hundred percent dedication.

RS: What would you like to say to all your fans out there?
Tiesto: I would like to say that I'm really happy that they supported me all these years and that we're still going strong. I became a big DJ but I still feel very connected and close to my fans.
