Tiesto Reveals Plans for a 2013 Album, Talks New Management, Preps for Huge Year

With a new manager Coran Capshaw at his side, the Dutch megastar expects a big 2013.

"I like to do big things,” Tiësto said today from his hotel room in Brazil. “And if you want to do big things, you need big players around you who can help you with that."

Under new manager Coran Capshaw of Red Light — No. 2 on Billboard’s 2013 Power 100, revealed in L.A. last week — DJ/producer Tiësto is poised for a 2013 full of many big things, including his second college tour, a rescheduled gig at L.A.’s Staples Center, a compilation CD, and – revealed exclusively to Billboard – a new album.

Billboard reported in January that Tiësto (born Tijs Verwest) had parted ways with longtime management agency Complete Control to join Capshaw (Dave Matthews Band, Phish) at Red Light, which he calls “such a big company with so much experience.” But the move was never formally announced, and the artist hadn’t addressed it publically prior to this interview.

"I think Coran Capshaw is such a brilliant entrepreneur and he always thinks about new stuff; the biggest stuff you can imagine,” says Tiësto. “I know he’s working on a lot of things for me at the moment, and I think it will definitely help my career to go to the next level."

Tiësto kicks off his second Club Life College Tour, a 14-date outing, Feb. 19 in Syracuse, N.Y., ending March 9 in Salt Lake City, Utah. “Everything is already prepared now, so it's pretty much keeping up with the music," he says. "The production is already designed, the DJs are booked. We are good to go."

The DJ/producer went on his first college tour last year, but “this year it's going to be a lot bigger," he says, both in terms of production and attendance. One of the largest shows is March 2 at L.A.'s Staples Center, originally scheduled for this past October, but postponed after the artist suffered a back injury. According to him, the venue is on his “bucket list. It's kind of a bummer we had to change last year, but it's one of those venues you'd like to have on your resume. I'm really excited about it."

Supporting the Dutch star are Australian DJ Tommy Trash, and fellow Netherlands natives Quintino and Alvaro. Tiësto says he’s excited about the variety these names will bring to the billing: "Tommy Trash plays a little different from me. Quintino is the number one DJ in Holland and he's a really big talent. Alvaro is a huge upcoming producer [with a] fresh sound to his set."

Aside from touring, Tiësto says that he hasn't stopped making new music, and revealed that he plans to release a new studio album this year, his first since 2009’s “Kaleidoscope.”

"I had a lot of time off this winter, and I already produced a lot of new music and finalized everything a little bit," he says. “I’m going to have a lot of new releases in the couple of months."

In addition to an album of his own, he promises another mixed compilation for 2013, following up his "Club Life Volume 1: Las Vegas" and "Club Life Volume 2: Miami" releases in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Tiësto's hectic touring schedule meant that he didn't get to watch the Grammys live, but he called Skrillex's sweep of all three electronic music categories "great for him and pretty impressive. If I ever get nominated, I will be there. The Grammys is a different ballgame, I think. Maybe after I make a lot of new tracks this year, I might be nominated. That would be amazing. That’s also on my list. I need a Grammy.”
